Leading Palliative Care Provider in Western Kenya and Global Treehouse Partner
Global Treehouse proudly announces our partnership with Living Room International (‘Living Room’), a mission-driven care provider in Western Kenya. Living Room is a leader in providing care to patients with serious illnesses, including holistic palliative care (PC) to children and adults. Currently, families and children in Western Kenya can access palliative care through county-level PC units, referral facilities with PC teams, and community-based hospices spread throughout the region. However, while these teams provide essential general palliative care, there are significant limitations regarding specialised care tailored for children with complex needs. Living Room is well-positioned to continue to meet regional needs through a multidisciplinary, holistic approach at its inpatient sites, Kimbilio Hospice and Living Room International Hospital, and through home-based care programs.
Global Treehouse’s model is to support local leaders with targeted strategies to expand access to high-quality children’s palliative care. Global Treehouse will provide technical support, innovation expertise, and connections to help Living Room achieve its goals of offering high-quality paediatric palliative care and having a community-level impact. Specifically, the project will strengthen the understanding of a viable paediatric palliative clinical model of care and build regional capacity, collaboration and community.
“We’re excited to work with Living Room on this project over the next several months to develop a sustainable model of children’s palliative care in a region where families face significant challenges. By partnering with Living Room, a key leader in advancing palliative care in Western Kenya, Global Treehouse will bring our international expertise to drive meaningful outcomes, of strengthening support for children with specialised care needs. We look forward to learning from Living Room’s strategic approach to serving families across their region, as this will impact other providers globally.”
